In Walden, Henry David Thoreau philosophized about the value of building one’s own home.
If you build your home with your own two hands, to paraphrase Thoreau, you’ll appreciate it more.
We think the same sentiment applies if you have a home built on your own land.
There are many advantages to building a home on land you already own. Here are our top 5:
If you own land, you own it for a reason: it’s right where you want to be. Makes sense, then, that a home on that land would also be right where you want to live. You won’t have to worry about being sandwiched between other houses. You’ll have space and room to grow. It’s wonderful. And, if you don’t have a homesite yet, Atlantic Builders can help you find the perfect one. Owning the perfect plot of land is a great win. Creating a home on that land is, quite literally, building a win on top of another win.
2. Cost Efficiency
Atlantic Builders has over 30 years of homebuilding experience, which we bring to each and every home we build—including those on land you already own. We’ve also built an extensive network of trade partners which, when combined with our purchasing power, means we’re able to build your home with high quality materials and craftsmanship without high prices. In fact, our award-winning home styles can be adapted and built on your land with prices starting in the low $300s. And just look at all the fixtures, finishes, and features you’ll enjoy.
When you buy a prebuilt home, even if new, you select from the home styles put together for the community. Sometimes you get some choices of features, but often what you can customize is limited. When you build on your own land, the first thing you get to choose is which home style you want. We have a wide range of sizes, widths, and garage configurations allowing you to match your home to your land. Once you have your home style, then you get to select the options inside. Plus, since you own the land, you can always expand your living space by later adding additions, sheds, workshops, and other outbuildings. Maybe even a second house someday. We have an online Design Center to help you customize your home.
4. Energy Efficiency
Our new homes are always built with building technologies and products far superior to those of the past. This makes your home more eco-friendly and energy efficient (which can save you a lot of money in the long run). One measure of energy efficiency is HERS (Home Energy Rating System). A standard, code-built home has an index of 100. A home can be ENERGY STAR® Certified with a HERS index of 70, which is 30% more energy efficient than a code-built home. Atlantic Builders’ homes have average scores of 52-65, meaning they are up to 48% more efficient than a code-built home and 18% more efficient than the ENERGY STAR® Certified example.
