Moving Day!!

We are in the midst of a move from The Chelsey Model at Stafford Estates to The Chelsey Model at Oakley Reserve.

The houses are similar in plan, with the biggest difference being that the new model has the Alternate Second Floor, featuring the laundry room on the second floor.

In instructing the movers on placement of the furniture in the new house, I told them that it goes in the same rooms, with a few minor adjustments.  The young man took out his smart phone and started taking photos so when he set up the rooms in the new house, it would be easy to set the furniture and place the accessories.  Smart man.

When you are planning your move into your brand new Atlantic Builders home, it is a good idea to take time and decide what will come with you and how you want to use it in your new home.  Most people do not get rid of everything and start from scratch with all new furniture.  Most will keep pieces that have sentimental value, perhaps an heirloom from a beloved relative or friend. Or maybe something that was bought during a time when they lived in a different country.

The important thing to remember is that furniture is seldom bought in groupings like you see in a furniture store, with every single piece matching.  As a matter of fact, that is exactly what experts will tell you not to do.  Creating warm and comfortable environments in your home should be a mixture of old pieces, new pieces and some fun pieces that work to bring the design all together.

For example, a sofa in a linen colored fabric is a great neutral that can go in any room.  Add a couple of upholstered chairs in a bold print, along with accent table in stylish colors and you can see the beginnings of a new room.  Changing artwork, pillows, perhaps a throw rug under the coffee table and the furniture starts to look all new.

When taking photos at your current home, before the move, stand in the center of the room and take photos facing in each direction. That way, you can have a point of reference when trying to remember how the sofa and chairs look the way they are sitting in the room.

Have a big box of resealable plastic bags for parts, keeping all of the screws or bolts from each piece of furniture with the actual piece.  Tape them on the back or label them and put all of the parts on one box.  I love opening the parts box and seeing all of the nicely labeled bags!

Moving is a great time to go through your home and decide what is important to keep, what you can give away and what to toss away.

Your new home is the perfect place to start fresh and will make your things look new again.
